Cheryl’s Holy Grails

I’ve been asked more times than I can count, “What hair products do you use?” One thing is for certain, I have tried MANY different natural hair products since “going natural” 7+ years ago. There are some products that have worked beautifully on my curls and others, well, not so much!

Natural hair is so wonderful but it can also be somewhat complex. No two heads of hair are alike. Curls range from very loose to very tight. Hair strands run from fine to coarse.  Your hair’s porosity affects how much moisture it maintains. Need I go on?

Products that work for some may not work for others. Finding those holy grail products that work for your hair can be so frustrating but I’ve always found it to be fun.

That’s because I am a self-confessed product junkie.  Whether it’s for hair, skin, make up, etc., I love trying out new (and old) products. What other way would I have found my beauty game changers?!  With that being said, read on as I share a few of my current holy grail natural hair products that I regularly use on my tresses.

sheamoisture hair mask
SheaMoisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque

My hair is a mixture of all kinds of textures and moisture porosities. My results using several deep conditioning masks have been good, but SheaMoisture’s Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oil High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque has been my #1 ever since I first tried it some time ago. And when I use this product along with my hair steamer, my hair is in moisture heaven!

henna gloss
Belle Bar Organic Henna Strengthening Hair Gloss

Speaking of moisture heaven, I never, EVER do a deep-conditioning treatment without including a teaspoon or two of Belle Bar Organic’s Henna Gloss Strengthening Hair Gloss. The health of my hair is completely transformed by the regular use of this product! Not only is it amazing for improving your hair’s moisture level, it is also the ultimate in strengthening and nourishing your strands.

SheaMoisture Jamaica Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner

There’s good reason why this leave-in is my all-time GOAT holy grail natural hair product!! SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner is my go-to and I cannot imagine being without it! My hair strands are fine and one would think that a “lighter” leave-in would suffice. Not for my hair!  It needs intense moisture and no other leave-in has given my hair that kind of moisture like this product has. During my weekly hair care routine and throughout the week, I indulge my curls with this product from root to tip.

The Mane Choice Hair Type 4 Leaf Clover Moisturizing Styling Cream

Although it’s marketed as a “Type 4” hair product, The Mane Choice’s Hair Type 4 Leaf Clover works well for most hair “types.” I love applying this cream after my leave-in to add that extra layer of moisture to my strands. My hair can get particularly dry along the nape area and since I’ve been using this product I no longer have this issue!

homemade flaxseed gel
Homemade Flaxseed Gel

Flaxseeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which is very nourishing for hair.  Not only does flaxseed gel provide hair with enriched moisture and shine, its moisturizing properties gives curls some really nice juiciness and great definition.  All of this adds up to healthier hair and, of course, healthy hair promotes hair growth!! Flaxseed gel is also very easy to make and just happen to have a simple recipe for you! Click on the title of this section or on the link provided below for the recipe. 🙂

The Mane Choice Ancient Egyptian  Anti-Breaking Split-End Treatment

When it comes the ends of my hair strands, I’m all about adding that extra, EXTRA layer of protection to keep them healthy. This small but very effective bottle of hair serum is packed with powerful oils (Kalahari Oil, Oleaster Oil, Mongongo Oil, and Baobab Oil) that leaves you ends smooth and will help your curls to look and stay gorgeous!

Tangle Teaser – The Ultimate Detangler

Soooo….I used to be a dedicated “finger detangler” until I came across this brush. I’ve tried other detangling brushes before but they were always a bit too rough on my hair. This brush? It’s unbelievably PERFECT!! If you want your natural curls to POP, this is the brush for you! I’m talking about definition personified without pulling your hair out in the process! I’ve never had any issues with curl definition, but my curls are next-level defined since I’ve been using this brush in my hair care routine!

natural hair products organic castor oil
Organic Castor Oil

I consider organic castor oil “the cherry on top” for my curls!! After nourishing my hair with all of the moisture goodness mentioned above, this is the product that helps keeps the moisture locked into my hair!! During the cold weather month, my hair edges tend to be very sensitive. Organic castor oil is what helps keep my “baby hairs” in check and help fight any breakage. It is also one of the key ingredients in the hair growth oil that I use on my hair (more on that in a future post!)
