Great At-Home Workout Programs That I Do and Love

Working out at home has been my “thing” for many years now. As I age, my body AND mind has no problem reminding me that working out regularly is a must in order to look and feel my best. I enjoy a great workout but I’ve never been too fond of working out in a traditional gym. Now, I’m not bashing gyms or discouraging joining one!  The important thing is to get in some regular exercise, whether it’s at a gym, outdoors or at home.

At-home workouts are all about convenience and variety for me. Literally being able to jump out of bed, throw on my workout clothes and exercise before going to work (or anytime!) keeps me consistent and motivated. I have the option of doing one of many exercise DVDs (and BOY do I have tons of those!) or streaming online exercise classes right from my laptop or iPhone. I can also go for a quick walk on my treadmill or outdoors which is as easy as it gets!

Below I share a few at-home workout programs that get the job done and that I love doing!

The Tracy Anderson Method

I can’t say enough great things about The Tracy Anderson Method! I’ve used her workouts off and on for years, but really committed to building a fitness regimen around her program last year. Tracy has an extensive library of workout DVDs that are both challenging and effective, but the “GOAT” of her workouts, in my opinion, is her online streaming program!

Every week Tracy streams new workout content for each fitness level – beginner, intermediate and advanced. I love this because I always start a new workout completely challenged by the moves. By the time I master them, she presents a new workout for me to conquer. Because my body is being constantly challenged, the results continue to come fast and consistently. Her streaming program costs $90 per month. Yes, it’s a little pricey but for me it’s an important investment in my health that is definitely paying off! Tracy offers a 14-day free trial, which I recommend you check out for yourself!

One more thing that I love about The Method is that is has a very strong online community presence. You get so much support and advice from other “TAMers.” We call ourselves a #tamily and it really does have that family type of feel.

To learn more about what her Method is about, check out her website and also read her book: Tracy Anderson’s 30-Day Method.

Beachbody

My favorite kind of cardio comes in the form of circuit training. Why? Because they’re usually short, sweet and effective! Beachbody’s multitude of at-home workouts never disappoint in that regard. I have quite a few Beachbody programs, but I have a couple of favorites that I always pull out when I want to get in a couple of cardio workouts during the week.

Let’s start with Autumn Calabrese. I LOVE her 21-Day Fix program. Although I don’t do the full program (I mainly stick to 2-3 of the more cardio-based workouts), I still consider it one of my ride or die workouts. My all-time favorite is her Total Body Cardio Fix workout. There’s a move in it call “Surrenders” that will have your leg muscles begging for mercy…in a good way!

And of course there’s Shaun T! These days I find myself using his Focus T-25 workout if I’m really short on time since it gives you a lot in 25 minutes. If I’m feeling really “ambitious”, I’ll do an Insanity Max 30 workout. These are pure interval training workouts. Thank goodness for the modifiers because your girl ain’t all about that jumping! Still, it’s a great workout!

BeachBody also offers an online streaming program call Beachbody OnDemand that gives you access to tons of Beachbody workouts. You can start with a free 14-day trial (don’t you love those?!). If you like it, you can continue it at a cost of $39 every three month, which is very good!

Cathe Friedrich

Not only is Cathe Friedrich an OG in the fitness business, she’s also a fellow Jersey girl! I’ve been working out with her for a LONG time! If you’re looking for at-home workouts that offer some hardcore weight training and heart-pumping cardio, Cathe is your trainer!

When I want to switch things up the only issue I have with Cathe is, “Which workout do I want to do?” Yup, I have a nice collection of her workouts as well! From traditional step aerobics to true gym-style weight training workouts, she’s got you covered.

Cathe regularly creates new workout programs but I tend to gravitate toward her oldies. 🙂 My personal favorite is her Power Hour workout, a total-body, weight-endurance workout that is tightly choreographed to 10 songs (a song for each exercise move). Using light to medium dumbbells and barbells, this workout gives your muscles a really nice burn. She ends with some great abdominal moves, cool down and stretch. I always feel a nice little “pump” in my muscles after I finish it.

If I feel like doing step aerobics, Cathe’s Low Max cardio workout is usually my go-to DVD. Although it’s considered low impact, you will feel this one! It’s a pure calorie and fat burnerFor kickboxing, her Kick, Punch & Crunch workout is perfect….especially after a stressful day! 😉

And yes, Cathe also offers online streaming for ALL of her workouts and a collection of her live gym classes, called Cathe OnDemand – ranging from $9.97 – $19.97 per month!

Take it from me, if you’re interested in working out at home, the options above are very worth looking into! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments section!
